About Kundalini Yoga
"Kundalini Yoga is the science to unite the finite with Infinity, and it's the art to experience Infinity in the finite." -Yogi Bhajan, 10/27/88 Kundalini Yoga is called the Yoga of Awareness. It is a dynamic, powerful tool that is designed to give you an experience of your soul.
In Kundalini Yoga we harness the mental, physical, and nervous energies of the body and put them under the domain of the will, which is the instrument of the soul. This technology precisely and consciously combines breath, mudra, eye-focus, mantra, body locks, and postures to balance the glandular system, strengthen the nervous system, expand lung capacity, and purifiy the blood. It brings balance to the body, mind, and soul. "Kundalini Yoga is not a religion. When we apply the technology of Kundalini Yoga to our bodies and minds, it has the effect of uplifting the spirit. It is for everyone. It is universal and nondenominational.
Kundalini Yoga is a yoga for householders, for people who have to cope with the daily challenges and stresses of holding jobs, raising families, and managing businesses. It is a path for everyone who wants the skills to cope successfully with the challenges of our times. Kundalini Yoga was kept very secret until 1969 when Yogi Bhajan taught it openly in order to prepare humanity for the major changes that this planet is going through as we cross from the Piscean to the Aquarian Age. The ancient technology of Kundalini Yoga gives us the awareness and the fortitude to make this a smooth transition. The legacy of technical and spiritual knowledge that Yogi Bhajan studied and mastered in India is the gift he brought to the West. "Practice Yoga & Celebrate! It is a festival!" Yogi Bhajan

Ajeet Khalsa and Nicole Fey have been visioning the Kundalini Rising Yoga Festival, a summer solstice celebration on the east coast, for 6 years. Finally, last year, all the elements came together and the festival was born. What started as a "labor of love" for Ajeet and Nicole, has culminated in a joyous celebration, a sacred gathering, a prayer for peace. With gratitude and love, we are delighted to announce the second year of The Kundalini Rising Yoga Festival!
Yogacharya Kalidas has been a Kirtan Wallah for over 25 years, traveling and sharing the transformative practice of chanting mantra. Blending his background as a professional musician with his devotional nature, Kalidas offers a uniquely accessible approach to Kirtan that is both high energy and deeply rooted in spiritual practice.
Melanie Leenhouts leads kirtans in Asheville in various collaborations, loves to chant and teach harmonium lessons, inspiring and challenging the next generation of kirtan wallahs.
We are so happy to have Kaela O'Dell back for the second year of the festival to lead Children's Camp. Kaela is a mother wearing many hats. She is a scientist, and environmental advocate, as well as a gardener, and yogi. She has played songs on her cello for Dancing Spider Yoga, and practices yoga daily with her daughter, Haleigh. She enjoys painting, singing, and exploring nature with the little ones at the Kundalini Rising Children's Camp.
Devta is delighted to be joining Kaela in co-directing Children's Camp this year. She is a mother, a yogi, and a musician, and she greatly enjoys spending her free time nurturing the health, hearts, and minds of all children in her company. Devta has taught Kids Yoga and Meditation in after-school programs and practices regularly at home with her two young daughters. For her dayjob, Devta works as a system designer for a locally owned and operated HVAC company, A A Air, in Knoxville.
Children's Camp will be held Saturday 9:30 am - 6 pm and Sunday 9:30 am - 4 pm. For ages 4 - 12. Children's Camp is free with festival registration!
Siri Khalsa-Zemel has been a sister in our Kundalini community for many years. She just completed her doctoral studies in Mind Body Medicine and for the second year has donated art and activity supplies as well as healthy snacks for our festival.
The Children's Camp area is next to the Powell River. All children under 12 require parental supervision to go in the water. With respect the river, we can make no representations about the safety of swimming since the river is not controlled (dammed) and flows can vary widely. There are also other risks involved in swimming in any river with current, rocks, logs, sharp objects, and other risks, known and unknown. Any one choosing to swim in the river would do so at their own risk. We strongly recommend that anyone swimming in the river be a strong swimmer. Coast Guard approved personal floatation devices (PFD's) also known as life jackets are also strongly recommended for adults and required for children. No children are allowed in the river without direct parental supervision.
